MARRIAGE WOUND
Today I'm thinking of the marriage wound.
I'm uprooting a half-dead Bridal Wreath shrub on my balcony.
I'm planting a huge basket of red petunias in the empty space.
Absence becomes presence.

Thomas Merton captures the meaning of inner pilgrimage for me when he says: "I look into my own heart and see a big mess, contradictions, (trauma and loss). When I see this, I have to travel it." I no longer see trauma and loss when I look into my heart-- thanks be to God. I see living alone now as making the return inner pilgrimage "on crowded spiritual path," that when nurtured, can be "a love offering to God." And a beautiful one as well. Amen ⛵
