DOLPHIN ROSE
This week I received an email from the Sisters of Life with a link to watch a group of sisters make their Final Profession vows in the United States. Happily, I know one of the sisters making her final vows, Sr. Jordan Rose. I am excited and grateful to be able to watch on-line, from Toronto.
I will tell you in a moment how I came to connect with this remarkable and caring sister, Sister Jordan Rose. But first, I want to tell you what I will be doing on the SAME day she is making final vows in New York: I will be having my first meeting with the Ontario Green Party. The purpose being to discuss my next steps in the nomination process for the provincial election in June 2022.
So, while Sister Jordan Rose is getting married to God, I will be going on a first date with the Green Party. You can't see me but I'm smiling.
Pause.
Now I said I would tell you how I came to connect with Sister Jordan Rose in the first place: It was a providential connection having to do with a book I wrote. There is a character in the book called, Dolphin Rose. Sounds a lot like Jordan Rose, right? But I hadn't even met sister Jordan Rose yet, and wouldn't for many years. Providential. Yes.
Fast forward 25 years: To one fortuitous day when I called the convent in Toronto, sister Jordon Rose answered the phone. I told sister about the IMPRINT magazine with her blood sister Gabbie on the cover (Gabbie and I have the same boots!).
Continuing. I told her how I had been deeply touched by the story I'd read about her blood sister (Gabbie) in the Sisters of Life's IMPRINT magazine. I said I felt moved to send my story to her blood sister Gabbie who I learned was struggling. I asked sister Jordon if she thought it would be okay to send to Gabbie?
Fast forward again: Then with the help of another wonderful Sister of
Life who was in charge of the convent, sister Antonia Maria-- my story got snail-mailed to Gabbie. There were lots of twists, and turns, along the way. There were
long Covid-19 pandemic post-office delays on both sides of the border. And so many surprises and gifts along the way too-- like starting this blog with Gabbie's encouragement.
Providence is beautiful, amazing grace.
